Tracy Hadel, LSCSW LCSW is a therapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy. She maintains a private practice in Overland Park, Kansas. She has been in practice for over 20 years.
She began her love of counseling in the field of alcoholism/chemical dependency. Later, associates encouraged her to gain experience in working with children and adults and, consequently, she began attending workshops on play therapy and parenting.
When her son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2, she began her journey into the field of autism spectrum disorders out of desperation. At that time, autism was not covered by her insurance plan and she was on her own. When she began seeking "private pay" providers, she was shocked at the cost of obtaining intensive intervention, but she paid and her son progressed with 40 hour/week intensive ABA. She is thrilled that he can say "I love you mom," because he was originally diagnosed with severe autism and he was locked into his own little world at one time.
While on her journey, she began looking into various types of treatment for autism, ADHD, and OCD (all of which her son was diagnosed with). During that journey, she discovered The Listening Program, an auditory-based intervention that can assist those with various learning disorders and sensory issues. Additionally, she found a program that would give her certification in play therapy with an emphasis on autism spectrum disorders. She also researched books on social skills treatments and sensory integration, studying them like she had studied for final exams in college.
She has recently began utilizing BAUD (seen on Dr. Phil show). This is tool that often provides quick relief from anxieties, compulsions, and symptoms of ADHD. For more information, see her other website: www.bluevalleyfamilycounseling.com
Her journey is still in process and she believes it will never end. She is constantly searching for new opportunities to help children in need and she believes that relationship, play, and social skills mentoring need to be a part of the treatment process for all children...especially those with autism spectrum and sensory issues. She also believes that therapy should be fun for the child and play based. "We need to speak to children in their own language."
With over 20 years experience as a marriage and family therapist, and as a graduate of The University of Kansas, she is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. She is very happy that her practice is covered by most insurance companies and, consequently, the parents that see her won't "go hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt in order to give their children the lives they are entitled to."
Tracy is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
